MacDill AFB 34.5kV Tie Circuit Cable Installation
Cable installation for a new 34.5kV tie circuit between the MacDill Avenue and Tanker Way Gate substations at MacDill Air Force Base, through Panhandle Power Solutions. The tie, with its step up and step down transformers, switches and primary junctions, lets either substation carry the entire base load, and the project also builds a new 15kV underground primary circuit running the length of the airfield to give the base a second redundant path. Cannon handled the cable scope: reel handling, staging and installation of 35 three phase runs of 35kV class cable, with horizontal line tension held under 11,000 pounds across the pull plan. Every worker cleared a background check and carried a DBIDS card, and the portions of the route inside the airfield boundary required Restricted Area Badges and airfield driving certification.
