CenturyLink El Dorado County Fiber Route

Cannon directional drilled and placed 20,000 feet of underground fiber optic conduit across El Dorado County to carry CenturyLink’s network expansion through the Sierra foothills. The route ran through native ground, rock and cobble. Cannon drilled it with a Ditch Witch all terrain rig under walkover guidance, held line and grade through mixed conditions, staged pre-welded conduit to speed pullback, and closed the route on schedule with no frac-outs and no heave.

Services Employed:

  • 20,000 feet of fiber conduit installed using a Ditch Witch 3020 All Terrain directional drill for torque and pullback in mixed ground
  • Mag5 walkover locating system run for accurate depth, alignment and steering correction
  • Line and grade deviation minimized across the length of the route
  • Specialized tooling and drilling technique deployed to penetrate rock and cobble
  • Equipment wear, lost tooling and alignment risk mitigated through the hardest ground
  • Pre-welded conduit staging coordinated to streamline pullback and cut handling time
  • CenturyLink HDD specifications held, working directly to the prime contractor’s schedule
  • Completed on schedule with no frac-outs and no heave
