Safety

Safety

A commitment that begins with the CEO and is shared by every employee

Safety is the first of Cannon's four hallmarks and the one the others rest on. Cannon's Washington experience factor is 0.6947, more than 30 percent below the 1.00 baseline, on a workforce that performs energized line work, directional drilling and excavation every day. Zero incidents is treated as an attainable objective, and the program is audited continuously by the people who buy the work.

How the program works on the job

Job safety analysis

Hazards identified at each site and for each task before work begins, so safe solutions are in place before issues arise. On federal installations, activity hazard analyses are submitted to USACE EM 385-1-1.

Training and empowerment

Regular sessions on current protocol and best practice, OSHA 10 and 30 training, first aid and CPR, and stop work authority at the crew level for every employee.

Tailored programs

Site-specific plans built to the challenges of each project: energized line work, confined space, excavation, traffic control, drilling and work near water.

Continual improvement

Refined from crew feedback, incident and near-miss review and industry advancement, with a job briefing before each task and again whenever conditions change.

A note on the two numbers

Two systems, two numbers, one safety record

Washington is one of four monopolistic workers' compensation states and rates experience through its own Department of Labor and Industries rather than through NCCI. Cannon's Washington L&I experience factor is 0.6947, effective January 1, 2026, improved from 0.7206 the year before. The NCCI experience modification rate that applies everywhere outside Washington is 1.00.

Cannon's commitment to training and safety goes beyond the standard protocol: all safety supplies, ongoing training and well maintained equipment are provided to every employee, in the shops as well as on the job sites. The goal is to protect our workers and maintain a safe environment on every project.

A responsibility, not a requirement

Safety is a responsibility Cannon holds toward its employees, its clients and the communities it works in. The best work is only possible in the safest environments. Three-year experience factor history, OSHA logs and the written program are available to clients on request.
