Elmendorf, Fort Richardson, Fort Wainwright and Fort Greely Fiber Backbones
Cannon’s Alaska work began long before the CACI backbone. Crews built an outside plant fiber backbone at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, with 15,000 feet of 2-way and 4-way directional drilling, more than 180,000 feet of trenching and rock sawing and over 230,000 feet of fiber, and another at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, plowing about 80,000 feet of innerduct, trenching more than 200,000 feet and placing 21 manholes and handholes. The list grew to include Fort Richardson, now part of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, and Fort Greely in Delta Junction, each with new duct bank, vaults or manholes, copper and fiber, and pathway into dozens of buildings.
Services Employed:
- Elmendorf AFB: 15,000 feet of 2-way and 4-way directional drilling, more than 180,000 feet of trenching and rock sawing, over 230,000 feet of fiber
- Fort Wainwright: about 80,000 feet of innerduct plowed, more than 200,000 feet trenched, 21 manholes and handholes
- Fort Richardson: 5,100 feet of duct bank, 16 vaults, 11,800 feet of copper and 18,000 feet of fiber
- Fort Richardson: copper and fiber spliced and terminated, raceway and pathway built in 29 buildings
- Fort Greely: 17,750 feet of duct bank, 11 new manholes and one manhole rebuild
- Fort Greely: 12,500 feet of copper, more than 13,000 feet of fiber and 1,800 copper pairs spliced
