Your journey

A career path, not just a job

Cannon's reputation has been built on employee career growth and dedication to the company hallmarks of Safety, Quality, Integrity and Teamwork. Most of the people leading our crews and programs started in the field.

Grow

Learn the trade from people who do it

Lineworkers, splicers, drillers, operators, engineers and project managers work side by side. Skills transfer across disciplines, and so do careers.

Train

In-house training facilities

OSHA, EM 385, high voltage awareness, flagger, CPR, equipment and BICSI courses run from our own training centers in Milton and at JBLM.

Work safe

Safety is the first hallmark

Site-specific plans, daily briefings and an experience factor of 0.6947. Every crew member has the authority to stop work.

Safety program
Build

Work that lasts

Substations, fiber backbones, river crossings and the installations that depend on them. The infrastructure you build will be in service for decades.

Life at Cannon

More like family than a workplace

Every quarter the employee newsletter fills up with the same kind of news: anniversaries counted in decades, crew members promoted from the ground up, families at the ballpark and a food drive that has run for ten years. Cannon also pays for referrals: bring in someone good and the bonus is $1,000.

Stay

Careers counted in decades

The founder has run Cannon for four decades, and every quarter's anniversary list carries foremen, project managers and office staff at 20 and 30 years. Many of them started on a shovel.

Grow

From the ground up

Groundmen become aerial foremen, laborers become project managers and coordinators become project manager apprentices. Cannon Academy, run with Clover Park Technical College, and in-house CDL, BICSI and safety training pay for the next step.

Together

Family on the calendar

The Kick Off, Swing into Spring at Emerald Downs, the summer picnic and its Cannon Olympics, and a family night at the Tacoma Rainiers bring crews, office staff and their families together.

Give

Part of the community

A fall food drive for the Edgewood Food Bank every year, holiday family adoptions for Helping Hand House and St. Francis House, and support for Tacoma YouthBuild's construction students.

"Over the years, Cannon has felt more like family than just a workplace."

Jason Olson, OSP Foreman, 30 years with Cannon

"We help construct and splice fiber for many cell towers in Washington and without fiber to those towers people would not be able to call 911. We also help build fiber to hospitals, banks, and businesses of all kinds. So in essence, we really help the world run."

Dan Murray, Project Manager

How hiring works

From application to first day

  1. Apply online

Each posting links to a short application on our secure application site. Attach a resume if you have one; experience in the field counts as much as paper.

  2. Hear from recruiting

Our People and Culture team reviews every application and reaches out to schedule a conversation.

  3. Meet the team

Interviews are with the people you would work for, in person or by video, and include a walk through the role and the sites you would work on.

  4. Start right

New hires get their apps, portals and safety orientation set up on day one, with a clear path for the first ninety days.
